Ultra wins award!
Ultra Precision is delighted to have received an annual award from one of its customers for the second year in a row. The award for continuous improvement was presented to Ultra last week by a large multi-national company with sites in every continent and a multi-billion turnover. The award is a result of actions we have put in place to reduce costs to this customer. This has included a number of initiatives on machine capability and cleaning processes. The main factor, however, has been our ability to re-design parts and advise on cheaper material alternatives, permitting us to reduce component costs extensively. This has been achieved by allowing us to view and study finished assemblies and understand their use.
The improvements we have continued to make has resulted in us being recommended to tender against suppliers in other European countries and to supply a number of their European production facilities.

Business Activity growing the fastest in the South East
According to a recent article on FT.com the latest Lloyds index is showing the South East as the region with the fastest growing business activity.
For us in the south east this is clearly encouraging and hope that this good news will extend to the rest of the country.

Featured Part – Brass Body – CNC Turning / Milling Centre
We manufacture this part on a regular call off order for a customer. It is a brass body made from CZ114 which is a fine grain brass, which can withstand high pressure, and nickel plated. We manufacture this on a twin spindle, twin turret CNC Turning / CNC milling centre. This allows us to produce the part in one hit from 2.75 inch diameter bar, including milling the hexagon. The part is honed after machining to achieve a 0.2 finish in the bore prior to plating.

Featured: Interesting CNC Milling Component Recently Manufactured
We were approached to manufacture an Aluminium part from 6082 in our CNC Milling section. We were given a 3D computer model of the part to work from on our CAM package. The part could be completed by milling the two faces and profiling, however each side had angled faces machined onto it. The only other concern was the narrow cutter paths between two of these upstands, as well as a number of very fine text and symbol features to be engraved.. This did, however, prove to be no problem for our CNC milling department!
What was equally interesting to us was the extra finishing operations. The part, as well as needing alochroming and powder coating, required a Perspex rod to be turned on one of CNC sliding head machines. This in turn had to be polished on each end and pressed fitted into the aluminium body.
All machining and assembly work was completed in house by Ultra Precision Products Ltd.
